Queslett Aldi Application – Please Comment

Today The Great Barr Observer have run the story on the new Aldi application – LINK

I would urge anyone interested to make their comments and it is regardless it is not our council making the decision.

The Oscott Councillors are against this and I am glad to say I totally agree.

Councillor Barbara Dring, meanwhile, has called for the proposals to be object outright based on traffic not being able to cope.

She said: “I would like to lodge my objection to the proposed planning for an Aldi store off Queslett Road.

I have submitted the following comment.

Dear Sir/Madam,

As a resident of Pheasey for all of my 44 years I have seen this area change over the years, from the closure of the quarry (my Mum used to work there) from Fine Fare to Asda.

As a regular cyclist and driver from Beacon Road to the Old Horns Island and beyond we all can see the current turmoil there and will peak this weekend with the Xmas shopping.

It is totally inconceivable that anyone can believe that these plans will not cause even more chaos. To declare we shop at Aldi and the stores at the Scott  Arms and New Oscott are hardly a long drive away or indeed on the easy and frequent 5 bus service.

In fact even by their own words they have not really addressed the issues on traffic and think it is a landscaping issue, they could not further wrong.

Added to this we have seen an increased number of accidents on Queslett Road and even more traffic can only contribute to this as motorists don’t care for their speed.

I urge Birmingham Council to reject these plans as totally unsuitable for such a road.
