Free Concert at Barr Beacon

Excellent idea from Walsall Council with a free concert by the memorial on Sunday 25th July

Walsall Council has organised the Bands on the Beacon event from 1pm to around 6pm on Sunday 25 July.

The concert will be staged around the war memorial at the borough’s highest beauty spot and will raise awareness of the Heritage Lottery Fund project to restore the much-loved landmark.

Visitors will be able to make donations to the Mayor of Walsall’s charity appeal for Walsall Hospice.

1pm – 2pm This slot will feature Red Venice playing classic rock covers and Indie singer/songwriter Gavin Medsa
2pm – 3pm The Mojo Hookers will play blues rock
3pm – 4pm The Edwards Brothers’ blend of skiffle bluegrass will entertain the crowd
4pm -5pm Up tempo Irish folk group Wild Irish will play
5pm – 6pm Guitar orientated blues will be featured courtesy of the Grey Goose Blues Band
Councillor Anthony Harris, Walsall Council Cabinet member for leisure, said: “This concert is a great free, family afternoon out at a Walsall landmark that boasts spectacular views of the countryside for miles around as Barr Beacon is the highest point within the borough, standing 228 m above sea level.

“We look forward to seeing people – and their picnics – as they sit back, relax and listen to talented local artists.”

The concert is free but visitors will need to reserve a car parking space by calling the box office on 0845 111 2900. Alcohol is not permitted at Barr Beacon.

A special Christmas event is also being planned at Barr Beacon on Saturday 11 December to support the Mayor’s charity appeal. Details will be announced nearer the time.
